Thousands miss morning milk

THOUSANDS of households were left without milk yesterday after Bright Dairy failed to make a delivery on time.

Homes in several districts, including Hongkou, Changning, Jing'an, Huangpu, Zhabei and Baoshan, were affected.

Edward Dai, a resident in the Pudong New Area's Huamu community, found his milk box empty though an early morning delivery from Bright Dairy was expected.

At first he thought the milkman must be sick, as this had happened once before, but later he found the problem was more serious.

"Not a family in the neighborhood got their Bright milk," he said.

Around 8am, householders began to post messages on the Internet, saying Bright Dairy, which is supposed to deliver to homes by 6am daily, had failed to deliver by the time they were leaving home. The company's three hotlines were reported to be busy during the morning.

The dairy said there were problems with logistics and apologized.

The Bright Dairy said in a statement yesterday that they "had some problems with the logistics brought about by heavy workload the previous day, the end of the month.

"We'll accept people refunding the milk or we can make up for our customers by sending the milk later," said Gong Yanqi, an official with the company. The company, however, didn't specify the logistics problems.
