Tip-offs help Metro police nail violators
METRO police have been receiving an average of 60 tip-offs every day about violations on the city’s subway network after they upgraded their official WeChat account “sh_metropolice” this year.
The tip-offs were mainly about beggars, vending or giving away flyers in the Metro carriages. Over 1,000 violators have been caught in January, most of them because of tip-offs by commuters.
To report violations like begging, a passenger is required to provide information including the Metro line number, carriage number, train direction and name of the next station.
Metro police will send officers and the tipsters will be informed of the progress.
WeChat users can also hand in Metro operation related suggestion or report facility damages through the online platform.
Police said they plan to introduce an awards system for regular followers who give useful tip-offs and suggestions. They will be given gifts or invited to activities.
Meanwhile, a total of 42 suspects who had been at large have been found by Metro police during their regular identity checks last year.
Metro police said they would add more force in interchange stations like People’s Squre, Xujiahui, Century Avenue, Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station to ensure safety during the Spring Festival travel peak.
