Toddler ‘thrown out’ 9th-floor window
A woman has been detained after allegedly throwing her two-year-old girl out a window at their ninth-floor apartment early yesterday morning, Pudong police confirmed.
The girl is in critical condition in hospital.
“She has a brain hemorrhage and several injured organs,” said Xia Lin, spokesperson for Shanghai Children’s Medical Center.
Police said the suspect, a 35-year-old surnamed Luo, “looked like she was out of her mind” when being questioned, but she refused to divulge whether she had a history of mental illness. In the residential complex along Hunan Highway where the tragedy took place, a witness told Shanghai Daily: “I was playing badminton with my friend when we first heard a woman overhead babbling something loudly and then a young child, naked, fell to the ground. Then the woman came down only in underwear, looking wild.”
The woman’s 8-year-old daughter is reported to have knocked on a neighbor’s door to say her mother had gone crazy, residents told Shanghai Daily.
