‘Too-tired’ cabby loses license
A TAXI driver who ordered two passengers out of his cab en route to their destination has had his operator’s license revoked, the Shanghai Transport Commission said yesterday.
The incident happened on December 16 as the vehicle was traveling from Pudong International Airport to Changshou Park in Putuo District, a distance of about 50 kilometers.
Before leaving the airport, the driver with Shanghai Fangxin Taxi Co claimed a “short trip” receipt — a docket that allows recipients to bypass the lengthy taxi queues on their return to the airport in return for accepting fares to places no more than 22km away, the commission said.
During the journey the unnamed cabby was speeding, one of the passengers was quoted as saying.
To qualify for the short trip bonus, cabs must return to the airport within an hour.
When the person asked the driver to slow down, the cabby allegedly claimed he was too tired to continue and that the two passengers would have to get out, which they did.
They reported the incident and following an investigation — during which the commission discovered that the driver had a history of making false claims for short trip receipts — the cabby was banned from driving a taxi for five years.
The commission didn’t say why the cabby’s claims for tickets had gone unnoticed prior to the passengers’ complaint.
