Top brand goods cited as faulty

SHANGHAI'S quality watchdog yesterday exposed some substandard electric kettles, thermos bottles, cookers, energy-efficient lamps and napkin racks, involving famous Chinese brands Royalstar and Bolan.

Electric cookers produced by units of Royalstar Group failed quality tests because they were improperly grounded, which can lead to electric shock.

The metal coating of napkin racks made by Bolan Sanitary Ware Co Ltd had poor resistance to corrosion. The napkin racks were sold at the Chengda Construction Material Market in Zhabei District.

Thermos bottles of Shanghai Husheng Electronic and Electrical Appliances Co had problems with components not screwed on tightly, which might allow parts of bottles to fall off, officials said. Some energy-saving lamps had brightness problems and also had potential risks of electric shock.
