Top fashions set to star at retail village
A DESIGNER outlet village is set to open next year within the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone in the Pudong New Area.
The project, to be called Shanghai Village, is a joint venture between Shanghai Shendi Group and European company Value Retail. Featuring more than 100 international fashion brands, including several flagship stores, it will be built next to the new Disney resort, its developers said.
The two companies signed an agreement yesterday and construction is expected to get under way soon. The 50,000-square-meter development is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015.
Scott Malkin, chairman of Value Retail, said the scheme will be modeled on the company’s Bicester Village project in Oxfordshire, England. It will have a European style, and shops will feature a selection of restaurants, he said.
Fan Xiping, chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group, described it as a “second iconic project” for the area, after Disneyland.
The Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone is designed to help the city achieve its goal of becoming a world-famous tourist destination.
It also promotes the development of local industries, such as conferences and exhibitions, and themed entertainent.
