Tourists cash in on policy
ABOUT 6,000 tax refund applications have been made in Shanghai since July 1 last year, when the city started offering the rebate to overseas tourists who spend 500 yuan or more, according to Shanghai Customs. So far, more than 10 million yuan (US$1.5 million) has been returned. Foreigners who have been in China no more than 183 consecutive days are eligible for the tax refund if they leave China within 90 days of buying the goods, the Ministry of Finance said.
