Tourists’ flight costs soar
SHANGHAI tourists have been left counting the cost after Singapore’s Tigerair pulled the plug on its Indonesian venture, despite receiving compensation yesterday.
Some 77 local tourists who booked Tigerair Mandala flights with Ctrip, China’s leading online travel platform, received refunds of 110,000 yuan in total (US$17,637) for the cost of flights, paid in cash and vouchers.
Most had booked flights with the low-cost airline for next month to Southeast Asia but operations will cease from July 1.
Now travelers will have to find alternate flights, at much higher costs.
“We’ve suffered big losses because it will cost three times the price to book with another airline,” one tourist complained on the Internet.
Other tickets to Indonesia in July costs around 4,000 yuan.
