Traffickers jailed
TWO African men who trafficked cocaine in the city were sentenced to 10 years and seven and a half years in jail in separate cases, the Jing’an District People’s Court said. They will be deported on completion of their sentences.
They were also fined 20,000 yuan (US$3,039) and 15,000 yuan respectively.
One of the men, a 35-year-old Nigeria, was caught selling about 25 grams of cocaine on the street on January 11 this year. He entered the country two years ago and arrived in the city in May last year with an expired visa.
He then worked illegally at a local pub and got the cocaine from a foreigner he knew there. By this January, he had sold more than 33 grams of the drug.
The other man convicted was an undergraduate at a local university who sold drugs to earn money in his leisure time. On March 10 this year, when he was selling a packet of white powder to a man, police officers caught him and seized 12 grams of cocaine.
