Trailer park set to open in Chongming
SHANGHAI’S first campsite for luxury trailers is set to open on September 22 on Chongming Island.
The site, near Mingzhu Lake, will feature 27 caravans, all of which were made in the United States and are available to rent for between 1,280 yuan (US$208) and 1,580 yuan per day, the camp owner said.
They range in size from 18 to 22 square meters of interior space, with the largest able to accommodate up to five people, he said.
Each trailer is fitted with a shower, air conditioner, WiFi link and television. The plots also feature a small garden area, with room for a barbecue, as cooking is not allowed inside the vehicles.
The camp will also provide spaces for people with their own trailers, at a cost of 200 yuan per night to cover the cost of water and electricity.
All of the caravans at the camping ground are static and cannot be taken off site, the owner said.
According to the Chongming County Tourism Bureau, a second campsite will open in October in Dongping Forest Park. This will feature 100 trailers from various US, German and Australian manufacturers, each costing about 200,000 yuan.
The city government said that similar facilities are planned for Qingpu District, the Sheshan National Tourism Resort in Songjiang District, Dishui Lake in the Pudong New Area and the Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading District.
Several camps are already in operation near Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang Province, and in Anhui Province.
The Shanghai Tourism Bureau said earlier it is considering creating special routes for people towing trailers in the Yangtze River Delta Region. By 2020, the region is expected to attract 3 million tourists a year, it said.
