Training scam trio sentenced
TWO former employees of Federal Express and an accomplice have received suspended sentences for embezzling nearly 500,000 yuan (US$75,075) in training fees from their company, the Changning District People's Court said yesterday.
The pair surnamed Yang and Wang, with the aid of a man surnamed Jiang who ran training courses, took advantage of a scheme where employees were reimbursed the fees of training courses.
Between September 2006 and January 2009, the trio persuaded 21 FedEx employees to take part in bogus training courses in return for 30 percent of the reimbursement fee.
When the company investigated the scam in late 2009, the two employees and Jiang surrendered to police.
The court sentenced Yang to three years suspended and his accomplices to two years suspended.
Other FedEx employees who attended the "training courses" will be dealt with in a separate case, judges said.
