Trapped woman rescued
PASSERS-BY pulled a woman to safety after a water tanker rolled over and knocked her down yesterday.
The tanker, filled with water, rolled over while trying to make a right turn on Hejian Road in Yangpu District, Shanghai Television Station reported yesterday.
The woman, surnamed Luo, 48, was walking on the road with her aunt when the tanker collapsed. Luo’s legs were trapped under the tanker while her aunt escaped with slight injuries.
Many passersby gave her a helping hand and tried to help her out but Luo could not move.
They even tried to lift the tank but failed. Later someone opened the tank and released all the water which eventually helped them to rescue Luo.
“At least 15 people came to lift the tank,” a witness who helped to pull Luo out was quoted as saying.
A police officer, who happened to be nearby, helped to keep order on the road. The police and fire department reached the spot soon after and set up a line around the area to prevent more accidents from happening.
Luo expressed her gratitude to those who helped her.
The driver has been taken in by the police, the television station said.
