Trio tried for organizing accountant exam cheating

THREE people accused of organizing exam candidates to cheat in a national accounting qualification exam recently stood trial, the Chongming District People’s Court announced.
A verdict will be given at a later date. The case was claimed to be the first one involving organized exam cheating in Shanghai after it was listed as a crime in 2015.
The cheating candidates face having their results canceled and not being allowed to take any kind of qualification exams for two years.
According to the court, the exam took place in Chongming last September 10. The invigilator found many of those sitting the exam were using the same kind of calculator and were behaving suspiciously.
After an investigation, more than 60 people, about a third of those taking the exam, were found to be cheating.
Police arrested three people outside the exam room accused of sending answers to the calculators of exam takers.
The three organizers, Bao Zhouxin, Zhang Zhijie and Chen Zhongming, had different roles, the court said. Bao was responsible for collecting information about candidates from private education agencies, Zhang provided the devices, and Chen supplied technical know-how.
Chen admitted in court he had learned electronic communication technologies and used the knowledge to seeing questions from the test paper and sending answers.
The trio face jail terms of up to seven years.
