Truck overturns on G60

A TRUCK carrying chemicals overturned on a highway in Songjiang District early yesterday.
The truck was carrying 30 tons of ethylene glycol, a moderately toxic chemical that is primarily used as a raw material in the fabric industry.
The accident occurred as the truck drove along the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Highway towards Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province yesterday morning, when it suddenly flipped over as it approached the toll stations. There were no injuries but the overturned truck blocked a lane and led to traffic congestions on the highway.
Police officers, firefighters and highway maintenance workers rushed to the scene to clean the spilled chemicals. The clean-up lasted two hours. The cause of the overturn is still under investigation.
