WORK began at the weekend on a tunnel beneath the Yangtze River to connect the Pudong New Area with Baoshan District, which are on different sides of the Huangpu River. The 8.4-kilometer-long tunnel, with three lanes on each direction, is the final project in Shanghai’s Suburban Ring Road. It starts at the crossing of Mudanjiang Road and Fujing Road in Baoshan and returns to land besides the Binjiang Forest Park in Pudong. It’s expected to open in 2019.
