Two arsonists sentenced to jail by local courts

A man in Shanghai's Jiading District pleaded guilty for setting a colleague's home on fire and was sentenced to five years in prison by a local court today.

Prosecutors said Zhao Kai threw flaming gas canisters through a window into the apartment of his colleague Xu Long one night last June. The fire destroyed everything in the apartment.

Xu's wife and daughter suffered burns in their legs in the arson attack, the prosecutors said.

Zhao said he was taking his revenge on Xu who caught him stealing things from the company and he lost his job as a result.

In a separate case, a man burned his own home last week after quarreling with his parents and he was sentenced to three years in prison with a three-year reprieve by the Baoshan District People's Court.

The court said Chen Jun was very depressed after quarreling with his parents on October 28 last year and went to a cyber cafe where he bet with strange online game players that he dared to burn his own house.

Chen then used a lighter to burn the bed sheets and left his home to prove he had kept his word.
