UK films to be shown online

THE British Consulate General in Shanghai yesterday announced the upcoming “Great British Online Film Festival.”

The event will run throughout August and September, and give local people the chance to see more than 40 feature-length and short films from the United Kingdom on the Internet.

Promoting the event, British consul-general to Shanghai Brian Davidson said it will also include a short movie featuring Chinese actress Qin Hailu.

The film, which will be shot in July in London, Edinburgh and Shanghai, will see Qin acting alongside a British actor in a romantic comedy created by an award-winning team including British director Tony Fabian.

Qin is also an image ambassador for the festival.

The movie extravaganza is part of a series of business, arts and cultural events announced by the consulate.

In March next year, the “Great Festival of Creativity in Shanghai” will showcase a “dynamic celebration of creativity and offer the opportunity for business leaders to get a deeper understanding of how creativity, from the UK and beyond, is playing a crucial role in global business growth,” Davidson said.

“Britain has much to offer as China transitions from manufacturing to service-led growth,” he said.

The event will help to bring together Chinese startup tech companies with experienced investors and entrepreneurs from across the UK, he said.
