Vegetable Prices Growing
THE price of vegetables in the city has shot up recently. According to the Jiangqiao Wholesale Market, which trades 70 percent of the city's vegetable supply, the average vegetable price in the market reached 239.5 yuan (US$35) for every 100 kilograms in the first half of this month, up 123.7 percent year-on-year.
A senior analyst at the market, attributed the price hike to a decrease in vegetable output in local suburbs.
He said the continuous rain in late February and a lack of sunshine have made vegetables grow slower, causing delays and price rises.
