Victoria’s Secret wins court case

A STEAMY court case ended with lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret winning 500,000 yuan (US$81,606) and a public apology from an investment management company that infringed its trademark and engaged in false advertising, the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People’s Court ruled yesterday.

The unidentified company was found guilty of using the Victoria’s Secret trademark in a store and at lingerie shows. It was also ordered to stop the infringement and print an apology in both Xinmin Evening News and on nz86.com, a women’s clothing website.

US-based Victoria’s Secret, which was seeking 5.1 million yuan and is owned by L Brands Inc, registered the trademark in more than 100 countries and regions, including China. It filed a suit in January after it found a store in Xujiahui’s Metro City using its trademark without a license. The store also falsely claimed it was the brand’s sole distributor on China’s mainland.
