Walking in the steps of revolutionaries
SHANGHAI Tourism Administration on Sunday announced summer events across the city and five walking routes taking tourists to historical sites recording the Chinese revolution.
The “road to rejuvenation” route strings six sites including Sihang Warehouse where 400 Chinese soldiers and the Japanese army engaged in a four-day battle in 1937.
Another route, “surging literature,” takes people to explore how Chinese writers played a role in the revolution that ushered in modern China. Stops include the National Anthem Gallery.
Meanwhile, the administration pointed to a variety of tourism attractions that are “good spots” for people to beat the summer heat.
The Sheshan Summer Carnival, for example, runs from June 24 to August 31, and features about 60 performances including samba and tap dances by about 100 domestic and overseas performers at the Shanghai Happy Valley amusement park every day.
There are also music performances and a food festival at Playa Maya water park, and a bronze sculpture art exhibition at Yuehu Sculpture Park.
Bihaijinsha Beach and Jinshan Urban Beach provide cool places to visit and both have opened for swimmers.
Guyi Garden and Wendao Garden are destinations for appreciating the lotus flower, while Shanghai Museum of Glass and Shanghai Botanical Garden will host night tours for children this summer.
Zhujiajiao Water Town will have a summer night market, and Shilin night market offers food from Taiwan at Jinjiang Amusement Park.
The Baoshan crayfish festival and the Fengxian mutton festival will also be held during the summer period.
