Wall builders lock horns over similar design
A company was accused of copying the design of another company and creating a similar scenic wall in the city, the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court said today.
The yellow scenic wall along Changde Road was completed in April last year as part of the city's beautification campaign ahead of the World Expo. Three months later, the wall's designer, Shanghai Novidis Architectural Mouldings, found a similar wall in Putuo District and believed their design had been copied.
The Novidis said in the court the wall along Langao Road was exactly the same in design except for the color. "The wall project started in July, three months after our wall was completed."
But the defendants argued that although their construction started after the Changde Road project, the design was made in April. "It's impossible for us to copy," the court heard.
However, both sides expressed the willingness to settle the case outside the court.
