Wanted man’s disguise fails to fool police
A MAN suspected of stealing more than 95 million yuan (US$15.3 million) from dozens of bank accounts in Hangzhou was arrested in Shanghai on Sunday, police said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed He, was apprehended at Hongqiao Railway Station as he was about to board a train disguised as a woman.
He was identified by Hangzhou police as the main suspect in a case involving the theft last year of 95.05 million yuan from 42 bank deposit accounts. His details were posted on an online wanted list.
The authorities did not release any more details of his alleged crime.
On Sunday, Shanghai police received a tip-off that He would be taking the 2:35pm train to east China’s Jiangxi Province from Hongqiao.
The suspect was spotted at the station wearing high heels and a long wig, and officers moved in.
After being taken into custody He allegedly told police that he hadn’t spent any of the missing money and would return it.
He was handed over to Hangzhou police for further investigation.
