Water planes for archipelago

A WATER plane sightseeing tour between Jinshan District and Zhoushan Archipelago will be launched before the end of June, its operator said yesterday.

The flight from the City Beach in Jinshan to the Zhujiajian Island of Zhoushan will take about 40 minutes, said Du Meixiang, marketing and planning manager of the Zhoushan Avic Joy General Aviation Co.

A port is being built on the Jinshan beach and will be completed in June.

The company has been operating six similar routes in Zhoushan between Shengsi, Peach Island, Daishan Mountain and the main island of the archipelago. Passengers can book five routes next month. The ticket price is about 1,500 yuan (US$240) for an hour.

The company’s two Cessna 208B EX business jets can land both on water and land. It will fly some 300 to 900 meters with tour guides onboard. The flight will serve both tourists or travelers keen to fly to the archipelago from Shanghai.

The jets will have two pilots and nine passengers and essentially caters to the high-end customers.

The carrier is also applying to take off and land from the north Bund area along the Huangpu River to take passengers from downtown, Du said.
