We can't get no satisfaction, locals say
SHANGHAI residents are less satisfied with the city's goods and services than they were a year ago, a survey says.
The level of satisfaction in 2008 scored 66.94 out of a possible 100, 4.04 points less than in 2007, according to a report released by the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics yesterday.
The survey, first conducted in 2007, asked 1,000 residents aged between 18 to 70 how they rated products or services in 30 sectors in 2008.
A rating of 100 points meant complete satisfaction while a zero showed absolute discontent.
Consumers expressed decreasing satisfaction in all sectors.
"The global economic crisis and the domestic milk scandal contributed to the decrease in satisfaction levels last year," said Xu Guoxiang, director of the university's applied statistics studies center.
"But the level of satisfaction is still over 50 points, showing that locals are basically satisfied with the products in the local market and the service they receive."
Of the rated products or services in 30 sectors, TV programs, which scored the second highest level of satisfaction in 2007, were the most satisfactory last year, with a consumer satisfaction index of 77.65.
They were followed by books and magazines, private cars, refrigerators and fixed telephone services.
Consumers continued to find rented homes unsatisfactory. Home rental was at the bottom of the list, with a satisfaction rating of 55.48, a fall of 7.33 points since 2007. Hospitals and transport ranked the second and the third-lowest.
