Welfare office to help women prisoners

THE Shanghai Women’s Prison yesterday set up a social welfare office to help inmates with rehabilitation.
The Zhijian Office is the first social organization to have a space inside a prison and also the first one to be named after a volunteer in Shanghai. “It is a new attempt in social help. I believe the Zhijian Office will be more effective than previous efforts and education activities because inmates now can now seek help in services like psychological counseling, legal aid, job seeking and other things,” said Yang Hui, an official from Shanghai’s Prison Management Bureau. Volunteers will visit the prison at least once a month.
