Why Australians chose Shanghai over four rivals
AN international innovation and entrepreneurship competition has opened in Shanghai, with nearly 6,940 companies and teams submitting projects.
For the first time, the “Startup in Shanghai-International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition,” has set up a special session for foreigners starting up businesses in the city.
Clinton House, chief executive of Australian software and technology company Trendwise, presented the firm’s analytics platform utilizing smart sensors to translate visitors’ behavior into readable analytical insights for shopping malls and smart cities.
Having been in Shanghai for about two months, he wants to let more Chinese investors, companies and the government know about Trendwise’s project via the competition. The Australian Trade and Investment Commission’s Landing Pad program offered the firm five options to grow its business abroad — San Francisco, Berlin, Singapore, Tel Aviv and Shanghai.
“We saw Shanghai as the best field for our product because Shanghai is a great international city, which is the gateway to understanding China,” said House.
