Wild bird killers get reprieves
FOUR people who trapped and killed 20 wild birds have been granted reprieves with criminal detention by Qingpu District People’s Court.
Zhou Guoqiang, Yang Junli, Qian Xinxin and Chu Yongiang were seen on February 2 carrying catapults and two air guns into woods in the district to illegally hunt 20 wild birds.
Police caught three of them and Chu, later handed himself in. Investigation found the air guns, loaded with steel pellets, belonged to Zhou. They are lethal and banned in China.
In the trial heard last Friday, Zhou was given a nine-month detention term with a 1-year-reprieve for illegal hunting and illegal possession of firearms.
Yao and Qian each received 4-month reprieves from 4-month detention terms, and Chu a 3-month reprieve from a 3-month detention.
Qingpu court set up its environmental crime tribunal on June 5.
