Woman gets 8 years for online camera fraud

A WOMAN who swindled people to the tune of 4.1 million yuan (US$660,100) for cameras was sentenced to eight years in jail and fined 100,000 yuan by the Baoshan District People’s Court on Thursday.

Lin Jiao, 19, bought Casio TR150 cameras from a vendor for 3,000 yuan and sold them via her microblog for 3,500 yuan. Between July and December 2012, she earned nearly 200,000 yuan but things started to go wrong after the vendor she bought the cameras from switched jobs. Lin then took more than 5 million yuan in advance from over 20 people and caused a loss of 4.1 million yuan.
