Woman gets prison in visa case
A WOMAN was sentenced to one year in prison for forging files for her customers to obtain visas from the Italian Consulate in Shanghai, Huangpu District People's Court said yesterday.
Prosecutors said the woman, surnamed Xu, 50, ran a company in the city to forge qualifications to help people get visas. In September of last year, Xu guaranteed a customer, who is not identified, that she would forge all the needed files to get a visa.
Xu charged the customer 30,000 yuan (US$4,717). Consulate officials later found problems and notified police, who stopped the customer at an airport.
Using fake files risks short-term restrictions on going abroad and a refusal by some countries to issue a visa, prosecutors said.
