Woman kidnapped on way to work by trio in downtown Shanghai freed by police

A woman who was kidnapped on her way to work yesterday in Shanghai was rescued in Jiangsu Province early this morning. Three suspects were detained by police.

The 27-year-old woman was kidnapped while she was walking or standing at the intersection of Yan'an Road W. and Hongjing Road at 5am yesterday. A white vehicle pulled up next to her and two men got out and forced her into the vehicle.

According to a relative of the woman, the kidnappers demanded 100,000 yuan (US$16,470) in ransom. They took the woman away before she was able to make a phone call.

Police took the missing person report yesterday afternoon. With the help of a surveillance camera, they found the three suspects in Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, at 1:10am today. The woman was found to be uninjured after done in a hospital, and she is still helping police investigate the case.

The kidnappers are neither from Shanghai nor Taicang, though police did not give any further details of their identity.
