Work completed on BRT stretch
Construction was completed along a stretch of the city’s first BRT route linking Fengxian District to the Pudong New Area, the Fengxian government said over the weekend.
BRT, or Bus Rapid Transit, has been described as a “surface subway.” It aims to combine the capacity and speed of a Metro with the flexibility of a bus.
The section along Nanxinggang Road in Fengxian was the first stretch to be completed, officials revealed.
They did not say when it will open.
The Puxing Road section will be done next year while construction plans for other sections have yet to be drafted.
If approval is granted, construction of the Xianpu Road section will begin in May, officials said.
According to a master blueprint, the BRT line will stretch 33.5 kilometers and feature 17 stations.
