Work finished on longest, deepest Huangpu tunnel

CONSTRUCTION has been completed on the eastern tunnel of the Hongmei Road S. Tunnel, the longest and the deepest tunnel under the Huangpu River. It will be ready to open by the end of the year, officials have said.
The completion of the tunnel is expected to ease traffic pressure on the S4 expressway, Xinzhuang Viaduct and Humin Elevated Road. It stretches 5.26 kilometers and connects Fengxian District to the Middle Ring Road in the city’s south. Construction of western part of the tunnel was completed in 2013.
