Xintiandi set to host art performances
HUANGPU District is betting big on arts with plans to hold art performances in public spaces in and around Xintiandi in June, the district government said yesterday.
The district authorities said they plan to stage 20 performances — from music, dance, acrobatics, operas and interactive stage dramas — from cafes, restaurant, museums and public squares across Xintiandi for two weeks, Li Yin, the district’s director of the publicity department, said yesterday.
If the effort proves successful, the shows from both home and abroad, will become a regular feature in the district.
“The performances will attract new group of consumers, like art lovers, to Xintiandi. It can then be promoted to other commercial areas in the city,” he said, adding, some of the green park areas in the district will hold high-quality concerts this year.
Among other related activities, the Shanghai Dashijie, or the Great World Amusement Center, on Xizang Road S. will reopen by the end of the year.
