Xuhui doctors to study medical disputes
DOCTORS in Xuhui District will work with the district’s Medical Disputes Mediation Committee to be able to better communicate with patients.
Under the program, doctors will get a close look at medical history, evidence, miscommunication in diagnosis and shoddy treatment, which are some of the major complaints of patients.
“I’m advised to be more careful in asking about the patients’ medical history and to effectively convey our medical advice to them,” said Huang Ping, a thoracic surgeon who has been participating in the two-week program.
Wang Hongge, Director of the Office of Medical Disputes Mediation of the Xuhui Justice Bureau said yesterday that it was working with four doctors from Shanghai Chest Hospital currently. There are plans to expand to program to include doctors from Zhongshan Hospital, Shanghai Cancer Center and Longhua Hospital next year.
The four-year-old committee, which is funded by the government, has offered consultation to over 10,000 help-seekers and resolved 1,684 dispute.
The program is also expected to benefit the mediators, many of whom are working or retired medicine or law professionals.
