Yangpu also adopts work reform
YANGPU District will be alloted a new pilot area for foreign students from local universities to work directly after graduation without the need to have done work experience.
The decision was announced yesterday by Xie Jiangang, the district governor, when he introduced a series of measures the district will take to set up a national demonstration zone for “public innovation and startup.”
Similar practices were introduced last year when Shanghai announced a series of policies to attract top talent from across the world, but this was limited to postgraduates employed at the pilot free trade zone and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Zone. This was expanded to undergraduates last month by the city government.
Yangpu is now the latest area to introduce the reform.
Among other measures, the district also plans to set up a special office to process foreigners’ applications for permanent residence permits.
It would also explore ways to allow foreign firms, organizations and individuals to set up non-enterprise units in the district to provide a commercialization service to research findings as well as other services related to science and technology, said Xie.
The district also plans to set up community banks that will support small and medium scientific and technological enterprises. It will also aim to take a lead in setting up scientific and technological branches, said Xie.
Supporting facilities in the area, such as education, will also be provided to build the zone into an ideal place for innovation and startups.
