Zoo to have ‘East China wetland’
SHANGHAI Zoo plans to open a new display area of animals native to East China in the second half of next year.
The zoo is upgrading its mammal display area to house a number of animals and birds, including otters, hooded cranes, badgers, muntjacs, raccoon dogs, and river deer.
The area will be converted into an environment of East China wetland, and will be divided into five areas.
Construction began this month, and all the animals have been moved from the old display area.
The dismantling work will start soon and the whole construction is expected to be finished within nine months.
The rebuilt area will cover over 30,000 square meters, incorporating a boardwalk, a bird watching pavilion and bridges.
