韩正会见萧万长一行表示欢迎台湾朋友参建自贸区

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met Vincent Siew, the honorary chairman of the Cross-Strait Common Market Foundation from Taiwan, on Monday.

Han said Shanghai has a lot of exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan in economy, trade, science and technology, education and culture. The two sides enjoy growing ties between their people. Many Taiwanese compatriots live, work and study in Shanghai.

He said Shanghai is now pushing for more reforms and opening under the leadership of the central government. The Shanghai Free Trade Zone welcomes investors from Taiwan. A peaceful relationship is good for people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Siew said Shanghai has always been a frontrunner in cross-Strait exchanges. The city’s excellent business environment attracts many Taiwan companies. He hoped that more small and medium-sized companies will play a role in cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation.

Yin Hong, secretary-general of the Communist Party of China Shanghai Committee, joined the meeting.
