SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng on Saturday met Samuel Chao Chung Ting, a Chinese-American physicist who received the Nobel Prize in 1976.

Ting came to Shanghai to attend the second Fudan Science and Technology Innovation Forum.

Han welcomed the overseas scholars for the forum including Ting and learned about research achievements of these guests.

Han said that it is essential for our education to train innovative talents with great imagination and courage to break bottlenecks.

The Party leader hoped these overseas researchers can visit Shanghai more frequently to offer advice to help Shanghai build a global innovation center.

Ting introduced his Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer experiment which was installed on the International Space Station in 2011. Ting also praised Fudan University’s major progress in brain science and brain-like intelligence technology. He said that if these progresses make breakthroughs, their significance will be very prominent.

Roger David Kornberg, American biochemist and professor of structural biology at School of Medicine of Stanford University, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006, as well as other distinguished overseas researchers introduced their research progresses.

Fudan University Party Secretary Jiao Yang and Fudan University President Xu Ningsheng were present at the meeting.
