Han Zheng meets IBLAC leaders
韩正会见上海市市长国际企业家咨询会议嘉宾

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met the former chairmen of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai and the new chairman last week, ahead of the council’s annual meeting on Sunday.

They are Starr Group chairman Maurice Greenberg, Luksic Group president Andrónico Luksic, Bain & Company president Orit Gadiesh, Investor AB chairman Jacob Wallenberg, HSBC chairman Douglas Flint, Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka, BNP Paribas chairman Jean Lemierre and WPP CEO Martin Sorrell, the current chair.

Han thanked them and all council members for their contribution to Shanghai’s development and wished their companies develop well in China.

He said Shanghai will continue the path of reform and opening, aim for smooth, healthy and sustainable economic growth with a focus on quality of growth, and further optimize its economic structure.

The Party chief said the development of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the city’s transformation into a global financial center are both included in China’s 13th  Five-Year Plan (2016-2020). The city government will learn from foreign experiences and practices and adapt them to local conditions to attain set targets.

Han asked the foreign business leaders to share their ideas, experiences and insights with Shanghai.

The theme of this year’s council meeting is “Shanghai’s Sustainable Development in Internet Age.”

The ex-council chairmen said the theme is in tune with the global development trend. As the rapid advance of information technology is changing the economic models and people’s life, the government needs to cooperate with enterprises to improve its services and promote the “smart city” project.

They said Shanghai is a city with a spirit of innovation. The international business community is watching every move the city takes in reform and opening. Foreign companies hope to strengthen cooperation with the city of Shanghai and become more involved in its development.

Yin Hong, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, was also present at the meeting.
