SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met a delegation of WorldSkills International led by its president, Simon Bartley, on Wednesday.
Han said China has cooperated well with WorldSkills since it became a member of the international organization in 2010. Shanghai wants to host the 2021 WorldSkills Competition through bidding and will feel honored to play host.
He said high-skilled talents make up more than one third of the city’s skilled workers and skill competitions are held annually in various sectors to promote skill training and craftsmanship.
Han said Shanghai will mobilize all resources to bid for the right to host the WorldSkills Competition, make good preparations and hold a high-quality event for participants from all member countries.
The Party chief hoped Bartley and his delegation can gain a better understanding of Shanghai and China on their study tour.
Bartley said his delegation was impressed by the city’s enthusiasm for hosting the WorldSkills Competition and its well-prepared, detailed bid.
He said they believe Shanghai is well positioned to host the international event, adding that the two sides should strengthen cooperation in skill training and increase the percentage of skilled laborers worldwide.
Tang Tao, China’s vice minister of human resources and social security, and Shanghai Vice Mayor Shi Guanghui were present at the meeting.
WorldSkills is an international organization for promoting workers’ skills and organizing skills competitions.
