SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni in Rome on Wednesday and conveyed Premier Li Keqiang’s greetings to Gentiloni.

Han said China and Italy began diplomatic relationship 47 years ago and upgraded it to comprehensive strategic partnership. The two countries have deepened political mutual trust and cooperated well in economy, trade, science and technology, and culture.

He said China wants to expand cooperation with Italy within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Han also remarked that the Communist Party of China attaches great importance to its ties with the Democratic Party of Italy and hopes to increase party-to-party dialogue and exchanges to bring the China-Italy relationship up a level.

Gentiloni asked Han to send his regards to Premier Li Keqiang and said the Italian government and ruling Democratic Party place their ties with China as a top priority. The Belt and Road Initiative has brought new opportunities for Italian-Chinese cooperation.

The prime minister said Italy has full confidence in building ties and widening cooperation with China in all fields.

Han was leading a Chinese Communist Party delegation to visit Italy at the invitation of the Democratic Party. The delegation also met Matteo Renzi, secretary of the Democratic Party and former prime minister of Italy, and attended the Sino-Italian Economic and Trade Forum.
