致力提升城市管理水平 市领导会见拉美议会议长卡斯蒂略

YIN Yicui, chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, had a meeting with Elias Castillo, the visiting president of the Latin American Parliament, on March 25.

Yin said Shanghai and Latin America are 20 hours apart by flight but the distance did not affect bilateral exchanges.

She said the 33 Latin American countries kept their promise to participate in World Expo 2010 Shanghai and their joint pavilion left a deep impression on visitors from around the world.

After years of rapid development, Shanghai is now focusing on improving urban management and quality of living from culture to health care and environment, Yin said.

The People’s Congress system is China’s fundamental political system and the Shanghai congress exercise power in local legislation, supervision, and the appointment of key government officials, she added.

Castillo said Shanghai is a beautiful city and he and his delegation were impressed with its vitality. The Latin-American Parliament attaches great importance to its relations and cooperation with Chinese congresses and hopes to add impetus to China-Latin America relationship.
