SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met François-Henri Pinault, CEO and chairman of Paris-based Kering Group on Wednesday.

Yang said Shanghai is a cosmopolitan city and a melting pot of Eastern and Western cultures. It has talents and brands from around the world. The city is working hard to improve business environment for foreign companies and provide them with better services.

The mayor said the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is a testing ground for reforms and open-market practices. New measures are introduced to simplify procedures and facilitate investment and trade.

He welcomed outstanding corporations like Kering Group to participate in the development of the free trade zone and expand its business in China.

Pinault said Kering Group has benefited from its overseas development strategy and it made the Chinese market one of its top priorities for investment. Shanghai is a place where many brands want to get in. Kering will cash in on reforms carried out in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone to develop business in commerce, culture and arts.

Kering is the world’s third-biggest owner of luxury brands, as Gucci, Puma, Alexander McQueen and Saint Laurent. The group opened its China headquarters in Shanghai in 2013.

The Pinault family owns a majority share of the listed company and also has other assets, including the Christie's auction house.
