Mayor meets US delegation led by Tennessee governor

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and his delegation on Wednesday.

Yang said the development of Sino-US trade ties is essential for global economic stability. Shanghai has close economic ties with American cities and is sister city of San Francisco, Chicago and Houston.

He noted that Shanghai has drawn a lot of direct investment from the United States over years of development. Many American enterprises are operating well in the city.

The mayor said Shanghai is developing the pilot free trade zone and has adopted a series of favorable policies to facilitate investment and trade in the zone and to further open up the financial market to foreign companies.

He said the Shanghai FTZ has become a platform for Chinese companies to invest overseas and for foreign companies to enter the Chinese market. He added that the state of Tennessee has advantages in agriculture, air transport, health care and tourism. Shanghai wants to enhance cooperation with Tennessee.

Haslam said Shanghai is one of the most eminent cities in the world. He was deeply impressed by the city on every visit.

The governor said Tennessee is one of the American states with faster economic growth. The Tennessee government welcomes Shanghai companies to invest there and is keen to increase trade and economic cooperation with Shanghai.
