Mayor meets visiting Italian president
在“一带一路”框架下加强合作 应勇会见意大利总统马塔雷拉一行

IN his meeting with visiting Italian President Sergio Mattarella last week, Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong said the two countries enjoy frequent exchange of visits by their leaders, growing economic and trade ties, and active cultural exchanges.
He said Shanghai is the economic center of China and the gateway to China and the world. It will continue to play an important role in promoting Sino-Italian cooperation in all fields.
The mayor said Shanghai is working towards its goal of becoming an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping by 2020 and a leading city in the world by 2040 in terms of innovation, culture and environment.
Ying said Italy is advanced in many areas and has a lot for Shanghai to learn from. He said Shanghai is keen to strengthen cooperation with Italy in economy, trade, science and technology, health care, fashion and creative industries, culture and tourism.
Ying welcomes Italian companies to invest in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and participate in the city’s efforts to become a global innovation center. The municipal government also encourages Shanghai companies to invest in Italy.
Mattarella said both Italy and China are great civilizations with a long history and splendid culture. Their bilateral ties and cooperation have developed smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic relationship in 1970.
The president said Italy wants to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and promote an open world market together with China.
He said the two countries have huge cooperation potentials in many fields, such as science and technology. He hoped both sides can celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship in 2020 with more fruits of cooperation.
Italian Ambassador to China, Ettore Francesco Sequi, and Chinese Ambassador to Italy, Li Ruiyu, were present at the meeting.
