SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Stanley Loh Ka Leung, Singapore's ambassador to China, on Monday. He said Shanghai has learned a lot from Singapore in port construction, industrial park development, and “smart city” projects.
Yang spoke highly of the city state’s experiences in promoting science and technology, culture, education and social management. “Shanghai wants to strengthen cooperation with Singapore as it tries to develop into an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping,” the mayor said.
He said the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is a testing ground for administrative reforms and market opening. He welcomed companies from around the world, including Singapore, to use the Shanghai FTZ as a platform for business expansion.
Loh said Shanghai has played a significant role in developing Sino-Singaporean relationship. His country is boosting cooperation and exchanges with Shanghai. The Shanghai FTZ is a new platform for bilateral cooperation.
Loh said Singapore is keen to participate in the construction of the Shanghai FTZ and to share its experiences.
Ong Siew Gay, Singapore consul-general in Shanghai, was present at the meeting.
