上海与比利时安特卫普结为友城30周年 杨雄会见安特卫普市市长德维沃代表团一行

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong received a government delegation from Antwerp, Belgium, led by his counterpart Bart De Wever, yesterday.

Officials of the two sister cities signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation and exchange in the next three years and a series of agreements between their respective departments.

Yang said the friendly relationship between Shanghai and Antwerp is growing strong and bearing fruits after they became sister cities 30 years ago.

He said Shanghai is pursuing administrative reform and market opening in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone and is building a market system based on international standards. It is offering convenience to foreign investors and traders to do business here.

“We are willing to broaden cooperation with Antwerp in areas from trade to science and technology, culture and education,” the mayor said.

De Wever said Antwerp and Shanghai have enjoyed close cooperation for many years and achieve positive results in many fields. He said the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is bringing new opportunities for increased trade and cooperation between the two cities.

Belgian Ambassador to China Michel Malherbe and Belgian Consul-General in Shanghai Cathy Buggenhout were present at the meeting.
