Shanghai, Busan mayors pledge more cooperation
深化合作应对发展挑战 杨雄会见釜山广域市市长

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met his South Korean counterpart Suh Byung-soo from Busan last Friday. He said the friendly relationship and economic ties between China and South Korea are growing strong. Bilateral cooperation between the two sister cities has flourished since 1993.

Yang said Shanghai is striving to become an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping as well as a global innovation center by pushing through reform and opening and by developing the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

He said Shanghai wants to expand cooperation with Busan in trade, culture, education, science and technology, urban management, and health care and share experiences of coping with challenges in development.

Suh Byung-soo spoke highly Shanghai’s achievements and said the Korean-Chinese ties are better than ever and the free trade agreement between the two cities will lead to many investment and trade opportunities.

Suh said Busan is focusing on developing financial service, IT and high-tech industries. He hoped Busan and Shanghai can broaden exchanges and cooperation for mutual benefits.

South Korean consul general in Shanghai, Gu Sang-chan, was present at the meeting.
