Shanghai Mayor talks with Bahamas PM
鼓励沪企市民赴巴投资旅游 杨雄会见巴哈马总理克里斯蒂

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met the visiting prime minister of Bahamas, Perry Christie, and his delegation on Saturday. The Caribbean guests came to Shanghai after attending the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in Beijing.

Yang said China and Bahamas enjoy fast-growing ties and cooperation after the two countries established diplomatic relationships.

Bahamas is an archipelago of beautiful islands with abundant tourism resources. Shanghai people had a vivid impression of Bahamas from its exhibition during the World Expo Shanghai 2010, the mayor said.

He told the visitors that Shanghai is striving to become an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping and the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone is also here. Shanghai is keen to expand cooperation with Bahamas in areas from tourism to education and infrastructure construction.

Yang welcomed Bahamas to hold investment and tourism promotions in Shanghai.

Christie made a general introduction about Bahamas and said his country should learn from Shanghai in urban planning and economic development.

He said tourism and financial services are two key industries in Bahamas and he hoped his visit could spur cooperation between Bahamas and China as well as Shanghai.

Chinese Ambassador to Bahamas Yuan Guisen was present at the meeting.
