Shanghai, Prague mayors meet to discuss ways to boost ties

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met a delegation from the Czech Republic led by Prague Mayor Adriana Krnacova on Wednesday.
Yang said that Shanghai and Prague had conducted fruitful cooperation in fields such as economy and trade, health, aviation, culture and education.
He said Shanghai could learn from Prague’s experience in preserving culture and historic buildings.
Yang told Krnacova that Shanghai’s efforts to become an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center have been smooth and the city was striving to push reforms in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. He said the city had taken efforts to become a global science and technology center, which provides opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two cities.
Yang stressed that Shanghai was keen to enhance friendly ties with all cities in the world including Prague. Shanghai Government will encourage more Shanghai companies to invest in Czech and welcome Czech companies to set up bases in Shanghai for the bigger Chinese market.
The Shanghai mayor promised that the city will expand ties with Prague in fields such as smart city, health and tourism as well as cooperate to tackle common challenges in urban development on the basis of agreements signed between the two cities.
Krnacova said ties between the Czech Republic and China have been developing smoothly and local governments have interacted with each other frequently. Prague hoped to further enhance friendly ties with Shanghai, she said.
Krnacova said she was glad to see Shanghai achieve notable achievements in smart city construction and Prague hoped that it could cooperate more closely with Shanghai in fields such as economy and trade, urban construction and tourism.
Czech consul general to Shanghai Richard Krpac was also present in the meeting.
